1. Marine Marvels at Atlantis:
The Atlantis resort is not just about relaxation and water slides; it’s an educational wonderland for young explorers. Here are some unique opportunities for learning right within Atlantis:
- Marine Habitats: The resort is home to stunning marine habitats with a variety of fish, sharks, and marine creatures. Take a self-guided tour and introduce your kids to the world of marine biology.
- Aquaventure Water Park: Explore the science behind water rides and wave pools. Understand principles like gravity, buoyancy, and fluid dynamics while having a blast.
- The Dig: Dive into the lost city of Atlantis at The Dig, an aquarium and underground maze that’s not only fun but educational. Learn about ancient civilizations, archaeology, and marine life.

2. Discovering Nassau’s Local Culture and History:
Venture beyond Atlantis to uncover the cultural and historical riches of Nassau:
- Pirates of Nassau Museum: Dive into the swashbuckling history of piracy in the Bahamas. This interactive museum offers a fascinating look into the Golden Age of Piracy and Nassau’s role in it.
- Heritage Museum of the Bahamas: Explore Bahamian history and culture at this museum. From the Arawak Indians to the impact of colonization, it’s a journey through time.
- Queen’s Staircase: Climb the Queen’s Staircase, carved out of limestone by slaves in the late 18th century. It’s a lesson in history and a great workout.
- Local Food and Traditions: Engage in the local culture by trying Bahamian dishes like conch fritters and learning about Junkanoo, a vibrant Bahamian festival with a rich cultural history. You can see this on certain nights right on the resort!
3. Encounters with Marine Life Beyond Atlantis:
While Atlantis offers fantastic marine experiences, there’s more to see in Nassau:
- Blue Lagoon Island: Take a boat trip to this secluded island and enjoy a Dolphin Encounter program where you can learn about these intelligent creatures. The boat departs right across from Atlantis – a very short walk!

- Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Center: Get up close with animals native to the Bahamas, like the vibrant Caribbean flamingos. The center also focuses on conservation and education.
- Snorkeling Excursions: Book snorkeling tours to explore Nassau’s colorful reefs and swim with sea turtles, which can provide valuable lessons in marine biology. However, we found that you could swim with sea turtles right on the resort for free! It took some patience but the beaches near The Cove had huge sea turtles right along the beach one afternoon and it was an incredible experience.
4. Language and Geography Exploration:
- Language Immersion: Interact with locals to learn about Bahamian English and practice language skills. This immersion is an authentic way to grasp dialects and cultural nuances.
- Geography Lesson: Study maps and the geography of the Bahamas. Explore the island’s unique ecosystems and geological features.
5. Project-Based Learning:
- Create a Travel Journal: Encourage your students to keep a travel journal where they document their experiences, draw pictures, and write about the history and culture they encounter.
- Culinary Adventures: Try Bahamian cooking with your kids and make it a culinary learning experience. Learn about the ingredients, techniques, and history behind Bahamian dishes.
